Central Chaves County in southeastern New Mexico... * Until 715 PM MDT. * At 416 PM MDT, an area of blowing dust was located across U.S.285 and NM 2 from the south side of Roswell to the Chaves and Eddy County line. HAZARD...Near zero visibility with damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. SOURCE...Law enforcement reported. IMPACT...Dangerous life-threatening travel. * Locations impacted include... Roswell, Dexter, Hagerman, Bottomless Lakes State Park, Lake Arthur, Roswell Correctional Facility, Greenfield and Midway. This includes Highway 285 between Mile Markers 79 and 104. A portion of this stretch of U.S. 285 and Hwy 2 has been closed due to near zero visibility. Near zero visibility is being observed along the Roswell Relief route between Sunset and Brasher. Use an alternate route. Please avoid this area. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Dust storms lead to dangerous driving conditions with visibility reduced to near zero.
