The National Weather Service in El Paso has issued a
* Dust Advisory for...
Northwestern Hidalgo County in southwestern New Mexico...
* Until 245 AM MDT.
* At 116 AM MDT, sustained outflow winds from earlier thunderstorms
have been gusting between 40 and 50 mph around Lordsburg Playa.
Visibility along Interstate 10 has mostly been greater than 5
miles, but occassionally will drop to around 1 or 2 miles.
HAZARD...Visibility occassionally dropping to 1 or 2 miles with
strong winds up to 50 mph.
SOURCE...Detected by National Weather Service meteorologists and
NMDOT weather stations.
IMPACT...Hazardous travel.
* This includes Interstate 10 in New Mexico between mile markers 1
and 19.
Locations impacted include...
Cotton City, Steins, Road Forks, Lordsburg Playa, Granite Gap, and
Pyramid Mountains.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Blowing dust brings reduced visibility, leading to dangerous driving
conditions. If driving, avoid blowing dust if possible. If caught in
dense blowing dust, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep
your foot off the brake.
