...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 1130 PM EDT THIS EVENING...
* WHAT...Urban and small stream flooding caused by excessive
rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...Portions of northeast New Jersey, including the following
counties, Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union and southeast
New York, including the following counties, Bronx, New York
(Manhattan), Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester.
* WHEN...Until 1130 PM EDT.
* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 820 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
showers and embedded thunderstorms. This will cause urban and
small stream flooding. Rainfall rates were generally 0.5 to
0.75 inches per hour with the heaviest activity moving in
from the southwest.
- Much of the area should see rainfall total amounts of 1 to
locally 2 inches.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Newark, Yonkers, Paterson, Elizabeth, Passaic, Wayne,
Plainfield, Bloomfield, Hackensack, Linden, New City, Orange,
Bergenfield, Paramus, Ossining, Ridgewood, Peekskill, Summit,
Lyndhurst and Millburn.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

- At 949 PM EDT, While the heaviest rain has exited to the
east. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen with locally
higher amounts possible. It will continue to rain over the
next 2 to 3 hours but a lighter intensity.
- Additional rainfall amounts of 0.2 to 0.5 inches are expected
over the area. This additional rain will result in minor
flooding.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Newark, Yonkers, Paterson, Elizabeth, Passaic, Wayne,
Plainfield, Bloomfield, Hackensack, Linden, New City, Orange,

The Flood Advisory will expire at 1130 PM EDT this evening for
portions of northeast New Jersey, including the following areas,
Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union and southeast New York,
including the following areas, Bronx, New York (Manhattan), Orange,
Putnam, Rockland and Westchester.
The heavy rain has ended. Urban and small stream flooding is no
longer expected to pose a threat. Please continue to heed remaining
road closures.
