The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Central Lexington County in central South Carolina...
West Central Richland County in central South Carolina...
* Until 615 PM EDT.
* At 311 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2.5 inches of rain
have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1.5 to 3 inches in 1
hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in
the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Lexington, Cayce, Irmo, Springdale, Highway 6 at Lake Murray Dam,
Red Bank, Oak Grove, St. Andrews, South Congaree, Pine Ridge,
Columbia Metro Airport, Ballentine, Harbison State Forest, SC State
Farmers Market, Barr Lake, Pine Island, Red Bank Sports Complex
and Seven Oaks.
This includes the following highways...
Interstate 26 between mile markers 92 and 105...and between mile
markers 111 and 118. Interstate 20 in South Carolina between mile
markers 47 and 62. Interstate 77 between mile markers 0 and 2.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Most flooding deaths occur in vehicles. Never drive through a flooded
roadway or around barricades. Turn around, dont drown.
