The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Maricopa County in south central Arizona...
* Until 200 AM MST.
* At 1053 PM MST, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between
0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing
or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing
flash flooding.
SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.
IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Mainly rural areas of Maricopa County.
This includes US Highway 60 between mile markers 100 and 103...and
between mile markers 96 and 99.
This includes the following streams and drainages...
Flying E Wash, Jimmie Wash, Grass Wash, Star Wash, Mill Wash, Daggs
Wash, Red Cloud Wash, Hartman Wash, Cemetery Wash, Jackrabbit Wash,
Powerline Wash, Woodchopper Wash, Dead Horse Wash, Sols Wash and
Hassayampa River.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
