Southeastern Luna County in southwestern New Mexico... * Until 700 AM MDT. * At 355 AM MDT, An area of heavy rain persists over southeastern Luna County. Radar estimates 1 to 1.5 inches of rain has fallen within an hour, mainly just south and east of Columbus. This is an area of poor drainage, and deep ponding of water is likely to occur, including in agricultural land east of Columbus, and along Highway 9. Heavy rain is drifting north towards the village of Columbus as well, and flooding may develop there in the next hour or so. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. At 444 AM MDT, An area of heavy rain continued to affect southern Luna County, near Columbus. Radar estimates over 2 inches of rain has fallen in a poorly drained area just east of Columbus. Deep ponding of water is likely occurring in this area, including agricultural fields, and potentially impacting Highway 9 itself. Up to 1.5 inches of rain has fallen just south of Columbus, and flooding may be affecting Highway 11 near the Port of Entry. Heavy rain is edging towards the village of Columbus. A rain gauge at Pancho Villa State Park has picked up 0.81 inches of rain, which tracks well with radar estimates in the area. Localized street flooding is possible in the village of Columbus.
