The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Northwestern Guadalupe County in east central New Mexico...
  Southwestern San Miguel County in northeastern New Mexico...

* Until 715 PM MDT.

* At 408 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing 
  heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain 
  have fallen in the lower Tecolote Creek and Pecos River basins. 
  Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the 
  warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin 
  shortly.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Santa Rosa, Dilia, Colonias, Anton Chico, Santa Rosa Lake State 
  Park and Tecolotito.

This includes Interstate 40 between Mile Markers 255 and 277.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly or mountainous terrain there are numerous low water 
crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not 
attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.

* Until 815 PM MDT.

* At 708 PM MDT, Although heavy rain has decreased in intensity 
  across much of the warned area, significant runoff continues with 
  notable rises still occurring on the Pecos River near Anton Chico. 
  Between 1 and 3 inches of rain fell from earlier thunderstorms, 
  and the threat for flash flooding will continue.

  HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms
           producing flash flooding.
