The Tecolote Creek within and below the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon Burn Scar in... West Central San Miguel County in northeastern New Mexico... * Until 500 PM MDT. * At 208 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain over Tecolote Creek within and below the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon Burn Scar. One to 3 inches of rain fell, so far. The storm producing the heavy rain is expected to drift slowly southeastward along the drainage basin. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is likely ongoing, and is expected to spread as far south as I-25. Excessive rainfall over the burn scar will impact Tecolote Creek. The debris flow can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding in and around the Tecolote Creek within and below the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon Burn Scar. SOURCE...Radar indicated. Interstate 25 between Mile Markers 335 and 337. San Pablo Creek will also experience flash flooding. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... This is a life threatening situation. Heavy rainfall will cause extensive and severe flash flooding of creeks, streams and ditches in the Tecolote Creek within and below the Hermits Peak Calf Canyon Burn Scar. Severe debris flows can also be anticipated across roads. Roads and driveways may be washed away in places. If you encounter flood waters, climb to safety. Do not camp along streams and rivers. Remain alert when hiking in steep, narrow canyons.
