The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Northampton County in eastern Virginia...

* Until 815 PM EDT.

* At 514 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing 
  heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain 
  have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are 
  possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected 
  to begin shortly.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Exmore, Cape Charles, Nassawadox, Cheriton, Bay View, Willis 
  Wharf, Eastville, Oyster, Simpkins, Machipongo, Birdsnest, Smith 
  Beach, Dalbys, Plantation, Franktown, Capeville, Townsend, 
  Cheapside, Silver Beach and Wardtown.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

At 646 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated 
that heavy rain was falling across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 
inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch 
are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is already occurring.
