The National Weather Service in Newport has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
  Northeastern Jones County in eastern North Carolina...
  North central Craven County in eastern North Carolina...
  Southwestern Beaufort County in eastern North Carolina...
  West central Pamlico County in eastern North Carolina...

* Until 445 PM EDT.

* At 401 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Ernul, or 13
  miles south of River Road, moving southeast at 15 mph.

  HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include...
  New Bern, Blounts Creek, Askins, Cayton, Jasper, Tuscarora,
  Olympia, Edward, Royal, Cox Crossroads, Bonnerton, Core Point,
  South Creek, Ernul, Aurora Ferry Terminal, Aurora, and Bridgeton.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

Please send your reports of hail and/or wind damage, including trees
or large limbs downed, by calling the National Weather Service office
in Newport at 1-800-889-6889.

Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning
are occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is
one of natures leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder,
you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to
flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
