The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
  The City of Charlottesville in central Virginia...
  Central Albemarle County in central Virginia...

* Until 645 PM EDT.

* At 539 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Crozet, or 7
  miles east of Waynesboro, moving southeast at 20 mph.

  HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

  IMPACT...Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches 
           to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as 
           damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by 
           downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. 
           Unsecured light objects may become projectiles.

* Locations impacted include...
  Charlottesville (although it may stay just to the south), Crozet, 
  Ivy, Greenwood, North Garden, Newcomb Hall, Batesville, Boyd 
  Tavern, Yancey Mills, Monticello, Woodridge, Keswick, Flordon, 
  Shadwell, Barracks, Keene, Overton, Scott Stadium, White Hall, and 
  Alberene.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a
building.

Large hail, damaging wind, and continuous cloud to ground lightning
are occurring with this storm. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is
one of natures leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder,
you are close enough to be struck by lightning.

Torrential rainfall is occurring with this storm, and may lead to
flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Crozet, or 8 miles west of Charlottesville, moving southeast at 20 
mph.
