The National Weather Service in Goodland has issued a
* Dust Storm Warning for...
Northern Sheridan County in northwestern Kansas...
Eastern Rawlins County in northwestern Kansas...
Decatur County in northwestern Kansas...
* Until 830 PM CDT.
* At 805 PM CDT, a wall of dust was along a line extending from 7
miles northwest of Atwood to 5 miles northeast of Hoxie, moving
northeast at 50 mph.
HAZARD...Less than a quarter mile visibility with damaging wind in
excess of 60 mph.
SOURCE...Law enforcement report 100 yard visibility in blowing
dust west of Hoxie
IMPACT...Dangerous life-threatening travel.
US 40, 83, and 36 in Sheridan, Decatur, and Rawlins counties.
Locations impacted include...
Oberlin, Hoxie, Atwood, Selden, Norcatur, Herndon, and Jennings.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Dust storms lead to dangerous driving conditions with visibility
reduced to near zero. If driving, avoid dust storms if possible. If
caught in one, pull off the road, turn off your lights and keep your
foot off the brake.
Strong to severe thunderstorms are also possible behind this wall of
dust. Keep updated with this quickly evolving situation.
