...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 1115 PM EDT THIS EVENING...
* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...Western Harlan County in southeastern Kentucky...
* WHEN...Until 1115 PM EDT.
* IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is
imminent.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 916 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin
shortly in the advisory area. Up to 1.5 inches of rain have
fallen from this latest round of storms.
- Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are expected over the
area. This additional rain will allow minor flooding to persist
or worsen. Portions of this area experienced heavy rainfall and
flash flooding from storms earlier this afternoon. Those areas
may be particularly sensitive to additional rainfall.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Harlan, Loyall, Evarts, Sunshine, Elcomb, Tway, Teetersville,
Baxter, Harlan Gas, Clovertown, White Star, Kitts, Grays Knob,
Golden Ash, Mary Alice, Chevrolet, Rosspoint, Tremont and Coxton.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law
enforcement and request they pass this information to the National
Weather Service when you can do so safely.

The Flood Advisory is replaced by a Flash Flood Warning for a portion
of southeast Kentucky, including the following area, Harlan.
The threat for widespread flooding has increased over the area.
Therefore the Flood Advisory has been replaced by a Flood Warning.
