The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Central Washington County in southwestern Utah...
* Until 630 PM MDT.
* At 332 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
heavy rain near Pintura. Between 0.75 and 1.5 inches of rain have
fallen. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms
producing flash flooding.
SOURCE...Radar.
IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...Ash
Creek, La Verkin Creek, La Verkin, Toquerville and Pintura.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Dry
washes, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a
matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law
enforcement and request they pass this information to the National
Weather Service when you can do so safely.

...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 630 PM MDT THIS
EVENING FOR CENTRAL WASHINGTON COUNTY...
At 502 PM MDT, Doppler radar rainfall estimates of between 1 and
2.25 inches of rain fell in Ash Creek and La Verkin Creek from
earlier thunderstorms. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to
begin shortly, with the flood waves moving downstream both Ash and
La Verkin Creeks to their confluence with the Virgin River.
HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing
flash flooding.
SOURCE...Radar.
IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
and normally dry washes in this area.

The heavy rain has ended. Flooding is no longer expected to pose a
significant threat as runoff from earlier heavy rain continues to
