The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  South Central Garfield County in southern Utah...

* Until 445 PM MDT.

* At 147 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing 
  heavy rain across the warned area... specifically across Bighorn 
  Canyon, Hole-in-the-Rock Road, Zebra and Tunnel Slot Canyons. 
  Between 0.75 and 1.25 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding 
  is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

  HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms
           producing flash flooding.

  SOURCE...Radar.

  IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of normally dry
           washes, creeks and streams, backcountry roads, and
           slot canyons.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Hole-in-the-Rock Road near Bighorn Canyon, Zebra and Tunnel Slot 
  Canyons.

This includes the following streams and drainages...
  Harris Wash and Alvey Wash.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where 
you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become 
killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or 
creeks.

...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 445 PM MDT THIS 
AFTERNOON FOR SOUTH CENTRAL GARFIELD COUNTY...

At 345 PM MDT, A visitor to the Grand Staircase Escalante Visitor 
Center reported flash flooding in Big Horn Canyon. This flood wave 
will continue to travel downstream within the Harris Wash basin. 
Between 0.75 and 1.25 inches of rain have fallen. Flash flooding is 
already occurring.

HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing
         flash flooding.

SOURCE...Public.
