The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for...
Northern Cortland County in central New York...
* Until 745 AM EDT.
* At 436 AM EDT, local law enforcement reported thunderstorms
producing heavy rain across the warned area. Doppler radar has
estimated up to 2 inches of rain has fallen. Flash flooding is
already occurring with reports of flooded roads in the area.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Law enforcement reported.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Cortland, Homer, Preble, Scott, Truxton, Cuyler, Taylor, East
Homer, Deruyter, Baltimore, Cortland West, Union Valley and Como.
Locally heavy rain will continue for the next 1-2 hours.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
