The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Southwestern Cumberland County in central Virginia...
  Northern Prince Edward County in central Virginia...

* Until 1215 AM EDT.

* At 909 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing 
  heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 1.5 inches of 
  rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are 
  possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected 
  to begin shortly.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
           other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Farmville, Hampden Sydney, Longwood University, Prospect, Tuggle, 
  Reeds, Allens Mill, Raines Tavern and Elam.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood 
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the 
dangers of flooding. Do not stay in areas subject to flooding when 
water begins rising.

* Until 200 AM EDT.

* At 1153 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated 
  thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 
  2 and 3.5 inches of rain have fallen. While the heaviest rain has 
  ended, additional rainfall amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible 
  in the warned area through 1230 AM. Flash flooding is likely 
  occurring.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
