The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  North Central Northampton County in northeastern North Carolina...
  Southeastern Greensville County in southeastern Virginia...
  Southwestern Southampton County in southeastern Virginia...
  The City of Emporia in southeastern Virginia...

* Until 1015 PM EDT.

* At 710 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
  thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between
  1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 2
  inches in 30 minutes. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches
  are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or
  expected to begin shortly.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas,
           highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor
           drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Emporia, Dahlia, Seaboard, Claresville, Green Plain, Branchville,
  Bryants Corner, Little Texas, Margarettsville, Pleasant Hill,
  Emporia Airport, Adams Grove, Lanes Corner, Gumberry, Pleasant
  Grove, Turners Crossroads, Drewryville and Brink.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, dont drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
