This evenings commute could be impacted with winter weather but the heaviest snow looks to come during the late evening/overnight hours before transitioning to a wintry mix during the early morning hours Wednesday. Snow rates could exceed 1 inch per hour with the main band with reduced visibilities also expected from the falling snow and gusty winds. Winds overnight will pick up with gusts up to 40 mph possible through the early afternoon Wednesday. A quick 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible in just 2 to 3 hours. The snow band is expected to lift north after midnight. Overnight, snow is expected to become more of a wintry mix with light icing possible. The icing threat will linger into the mid morning hours of Wednesday. Travel will be impacted quickly after onset of the heavier snow band as wet roads acquire a snow cover and snowfall rates severely hamper visibilities. Exercise caution or avoid travel if you can. The band is dropping a quick 1 to 3" over the span of 2 to 3 hours, with the bulk of the accumulations on colder, grassy surfaces. Within the band visibilities drop to 1/2 mile while roads acquire at least a light coating of snow. Impacts to travel continue. Overnight, the snow band will exit northward and precipitation will lighten up, but another round of snow to a wintry mix, including freezing rain, will move in for the early morning hours of Wednesday.
