East Central Chaves County in southeastern New Mexico... * Until 730 PM MDT. * At 646 PM MDT, a confirmed tornado was located 14 miles south of Elkins, or 32 miles east of Roswell, moving southeast at 40 mph. HAZARD...Damaging tornado and half dollar size hail. SOURCE...Public reported tornado on the ground. IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely. * Locations impacted include... Mainly rural areas of East Central Chaves County. This includes Highway 380 between Mile Markers 182 and 199. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a well-built building away from windows.
